City Comptroller John Liu sacked his scheduling director yesterday in a sign of continuing staff turmoil in his office, sources said yesterday.
Maribel Torres, who worked for 18 years in the state Attorney General’s Office and served a stint as former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s planning director before joining Liu, got the hook yesterday morning.
Torres was making $105,000 as Liu’s scheduler. She joined the comptroller’s office last November.
Insiders said Liu’s powerful aide Mei-Hua Ru, to whom Torres reported, fired her. It’s unclear why, sources said.
“Ms. Torres was extremely well regarded in this office and had previously served as director of scheduling for Eliot Spitzer. She was given 20 minutes to clear out her desk,” a source said.
“People in the comptroller’s office are stunned.”
The latest staff shakeup comes amid the ongoing federal probe of Liu’s campaign fund-raising activities.
