So many cyclists have flooded the city’s streets that there’s hardly anywhere for them to park — and now riders are illegally chaining their bikes on everything from trees to hydrants, community leaders say.
The overwhelmed Department of Transportation, which has installed more than 250 miles of bike lanes, can’t keep up with the mounting requests for bike racks.
That’s because of the city’s lengthy process to inspect the site of each rack request.
As a result, cyclists have begun attaching their bikes to anything bolted to the ground — creating dangerous situations for pedestrians and first responders.
