It’s officially Christmas time in Downtown Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz yesterday threw the switch and illuminated a 40-foot-tall Christmas tree in Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza.
Time Out New York has hailed the tree one of the city’s trees “worth seeking out on a cold winter’s night.” The balsam fir will sparkle with Christmas colors each night through Christmas season.
Joining Markowitz at the tree lighting ceremony were Councilman Stephen Levin, Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr., Assemblywoman Joan Millman, Councilwoman Letitia James and Akeelah Freeman, 4, of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Free holiday cookies were handed out and, of course, there was a special guest appearance from Santa himself.
