B’klyn oil-spill cleanup
Contractors working for National Grid yesterday were cleaning up oil and other hazardous materials spilled in Paerdegat Basin in Brooklyn.
The spill happened late Thursday while National Grid removed an unused gas line, authorities said. Several hundred gallons of oil and other material in the line spilled into the bay.
Workers had contained the spill within the basin, but authorities were warning boaters and fishermen to avoid the area.
“The gas [smell] was just horrific,” said Geoffrey Croft of the NYC Park Advocates.
