B’klyn Scout drowns
An 18-year-old Eagle Scout from Brooklyn drowned trying to swim across the Delaware River upstate, authorities said yesterday.
Daniel Rak and two friends dived in Wednesday evening near their Boy Scout camp in rural Narrowsburg on the Pennsylvania border 85 miles northwest of New York City.
His friends turned back, but Rak had difficulty in the swift current and slipped under the surface, deputies said.
Divers recovered the body Thursday afternoon.
The Greater New York Councils Boy Scouts of America said Rak was a volunteer assistant leader at the Ten Mile River Scout Camps, a sprawling complex spread over 12,000 acres.
