A blind man was struck by a subway train in Brooklyn Wednesday after he accidentally fell onto the tracks as a train was pulling in to the station, authorities said.
Louis Velez, 55, lost his footing at the Church Avenue F/G station in Kensington at 4:15 p.m. just as a northbound G train was bearing down, officials said.
A witness attempted to grab Velez before he fell, but was unsuccessful, police sources said.
Velez was rushed to Lutheran Hospital and is expected to survive.
He suffered a broken arm and a laceration to the back of his head, police said.
“He’s conscious, but doesn’t remember a thing,” a police source said.
A not-for-profit employment center, New York City Industries for the Blind, is located on 14th Avenue, not far from the station, and “it’s not uncommon for several people to come through [the station] with their walking sticks,” the source said.
