A Big Apple correction officer needed 35 stitches in his head after he was attacked by a Bloods gang member, The Post has learned.
Inmate Richy Castillo was at the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan for dialysis treatments on Monday night when he allegedly ran toward the officer and attacked him, internal records obtained by The Post show.
Castillo allegedly punched the officer in the face and head with a closed fist, sending him crashing to the floor face first, the records say.
The inmate stomped the officer, leaving him with injuries on his upper body and bloody gashes to the left side of his head.
The inmate was locked up on felony attempted robbery, menacing and criminal contempt raps stemming from a May 30 incident out of the Bronx, jail records show. J.C.RiceThe inmate, who stands 6 feet 1 and weighs 200 pounds, then stomped the officer, leaving him with injuries on his upper body and bloody gashes to the left side of his head and upper lip.
“This heinous and unprovoked assault on our officer assigned to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward is further evidence that the location of our jails has nothing to do with the soaring violence in our jails,” Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association president Benny Boscio said in a statement.
“Instead of pushing to close Rikers, our elected leaders need to hold violent inmates accountable for their crimes committed in our custody,” he said. “The DA must prosecute this inmate to the fullest extent of the law and seek a consecutive, not concurrent sentence.”

He’s being held on $50,000 bail.
