Mayor Bloomberg’s administration is trying to attract a new college for engineering and applied sciences to New York City.

The city said Thursday it wants the academic world to submit ideas for a partnership with the city to create a new applied science campus.

The Bloomberg administration wants to develop more opportunities for applied sciences in New York.

The city plans to help fund the project and could also provide land for the new campus.

Possible areas include Roosevelt Island, Governors Island, Staten Island and the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Sunset Park.

Deputy Mayor Robert Steel said New York is strong in applied sciences and engineering, but doesn’t dominate.
