A new Quinnipiac University poll out today showed Mayor Bloomberg pulling ahead of Democratic rival Bill Thompson 53-35 percent, with 10 percent undecided, just eight days before Election Day.
“It’s been shaping up all along, and now the new numbers say it looks like a Bloomberg blow-out,” said pollster Maurice Carroll.
“It’s not only the money. Sure, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has spent a zillion dollars on this campaign – but he seems to have spent it wisely.
“And the Thompson campaign has stuttered. They tapped into real distaste for scrapping term limits, but that was pretty much their only issue and it doesn’t seem to have been nearly enough,” Carroll added.
A similar poll last week by Marist College had Bloomberg leading by 16 points among likely voters. .
Bloomberg last week broke his own spending record from 2005. He has blown through more than $85 million of his own money. Thompson raises money and has spent about $6 million.
