The state Board of Elections failed Thursday to close a loophole allowing donors to bankroll candidates with large donations through limited-liability companies.

The four-member board deadlocked along political lines over a measure that would have reduced what the LLCs can give annually from $150,000 to $5,000.

Two Democrats supported the measure; two Republicans opposed it.
