A man threw a device into a marked police car in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday night, sources said.

The man in a gold SUV when he flung the device in the vehicle which landed on the dashboard at around 11:30 p.m. near 46th Street and Sixth Avenue and threw the device, according to law enforcement sources.

The officers placed the device on sidewalk and exited the vehicle to take cover.

The device appeared to be a flashlight wrapped and candle wrapped in tin foil.

Cops were looking for the suspect early Thursday.
