A Long Island church bookkeeper was busted for stealing over $180,000 from the house of worship — spending the loot on jewelry and cars.
Therese Iuzzolino, 45, is accused of stealing the money from St. Mary’s Church in Roslyn Harbor over a five-year period from December 2011 to April 2017, prosecutors say.
Iuzzolino — a part time bookkeeper for the church — allegedly falsified records by deleting withdrawal and deposit entries in the church financial records.
Iuzzolino was discovered and fired by the church when a bank called in May 2017 about a suspicious $5,000 check.
Prosecutors say she used the money to pay for jewelry, dental expenses, computers and entertainment.
She also allegedly made payments to a car dealer, toy stores and even gun shops. It is unclear what she purchased at the gun stores and how much money she spent.
The Merrick woman was arraigned yesterday on grand larceny, and falsifying business records charges.
She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted and is due back in court on Sept. 11.
