Boot on tow kingpin
He’s been impounded.
A motormouth disbarred lawyer who ran a virtual monopoly filing license renewals for tow-truck companies allegedly threatened the city Consumer Affairs commissioner in a dispute over a lucrative contract awarded to a company he didn’t like.
Now towing czar Norman Teitler, 67 — once accused of pocketing $10,000 in bribes to rig highway contracts — has been barred from doing business with the city.
In an agitated June 1 e-mail to Commissioner Jonathan Mintz, whose agency oversees the licensing, Teitler claimed Runway Towing, awarded the contract to cruise the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, cheated on its paperwork — and he demanded that the city pull its license.
Instead, the agency has launched a probe into Teitler’s firm and has told him that it will no longer accept his filings.
Teitler did not respond to a request for comment.
