‘Bouquet’ bandit gets jail
A bouquet-bearing bank bandit will get planted behind bars for at least six years after he pleaded guilty yesterday to two heists last year.
Edward Pemberton, 45, copped a not-so-rosy plea bargain and admitted to knocking off Manhattan branches of Capital One and Bank of Smithtown in July 2010. They were headline-grabbing robberies marked by his odd weapon of choice: flowers.
In the Smithtown job, Pemberton walked in with a bouquet of roses, African daisies, gladiolas and chrysanthemums and handed the teller a stickup note.
A week earlier at Capital One, he carried in a potted plant and passed a note to the teller.
The two robberies netted him $2,765.
Pemberton agreed to spend six to 12 years in prison. Each count carried sentences of three to six years, and Pemberton signed off on consecutive terms.
