SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse airport officials say flight operations are back to normal after hundreds of passengers where evacuated from a terminal when a suspicious black box was found aboard a Delta regional jet.

Federal aviation security officials say Friday morning the device with wires and a switch turned out to be a control device for sanding equipment.

Hancock International Airport officials say a pilot doing a preflight check found the box around 5:30 a.m. on a Comair regional jet that had arrived from Atlanta the night before.

The airport’s north and south terminals were evacuated, causing flight delays for about 600 passengers.

Airport officials say operations were back to normal by midmorning. The Comair flight was late departing on a return trip to Atlanta.
