The 4-year-old boy who died in a Bronx crash late Sunday was riding a stolen scooter with his father when they slammed into another car, cops said Monday.

The child, identified as Mario Rosario, was riding on the back of a two-wheel scooter with his dad around 9:20 p.m. when they tried to overtake a 2022 Toyota sedan heading south on Bailey Avenue and turning onto West 193rd Street in Fordham Manor, authorities said.

The scooter struck the car on the left side – causing the scooter to hit the curb, knocking both passengers off their ride, authorities said.

The boy, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, hit his head on the ground, cops said. His father was wearing a helmet, according to police sources.

The child was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died.

The scooter was reportedly stolen, and the boy’s 24-year-old father, also named Mario Rosario, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, authorities said.

It’s not clear whether Rosario stole the vehicle himself or got it by other means.

He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, cops said.

The Toyota driver, William Baez, 51, was driving with a suspended license, police said.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, cops said.
