A young boy was in critical condition Thursday night after nearly drowning in a pool aboard a cruise ship in New York Harbor.

The 8-year-old was aboard the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas when the incident occurred.

Medical crews on the ship performed CPR, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

The NYPD’s Aviation Unit airlifted the child to Staten Island University Hospital North, accompanied by FDNY paramedics.

The ship then returned to its starting point in Bayonne, NJ.
