A 6-year-old boy was slapped in the face in an unprovoked assault just outside Bryant Park’s bustling winter market in Midtown on Sunday, according to authorities and sources.

The little boy was assaulted around 4:51 p.m. at the corner of 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, steps from the park that was packed with cheery shoppers at the annual holiday market in the Bank of America Winter Village, according to the NYPD.

The youngster was slapped in the face in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack, according to sources.

The boy’s father, who was with him at the park, witnessed the assault and reported it to police, sources said.

The child was treated at a police precinct and was not physically harmed in a major way, cops added.

A person of interest was taken into custody, according to police. He has not yet been charged as of Sunday evening, sources said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
