The NYPD’s “Patrol Guide” offers a single page of guidance for the application of “deadly physical force.”
Officers are instructed to shoot only if “they have probable cause to believe they must protect themselves or another person present from imminent death or serious physical injury.”
“We will await our standard review the department conducts with all police-involved shootings,” said NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne.
