Weird but true: The Port Authority is actually six months ahead of schedule on a crucial portion of its $1 billion Bayonne Bridge upgrade, officials said yesterday.

The original completion date was mid-2016.
PA Chairman David Samson said it’s crucial for the agency to accommodate larger ships in time for the opening of the widened Panama Canal.
