A New Jersey legislative committee investigating Gov. Chris Christie over the politically motivated George Washington Bridge lane-closure scandal is being asked to begin a separate probe into whether a top administration official got a criminal indictment dropped because it targeted Christie supporters.

A former prosecutor in Hunterdon County has asked the panel to investigate the firing of a colleague. The colleague alleges he lost his job when he complained about the state dropping an indictment against a politically connected county sheriff and two subordinates.

In a letter to the committee obtained by The Associated Press, Charles Ouslander says the case was “influenced by improper ­political considerations.”

The indictment was dropped in 2010 by the attorney general, a Christie appointee.

Committee co-chair Sen. Loretta Weinberg says the request will be reviewed.
