Notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will appear via video at his next court date in Brooklyn due to safety concerns for the marshals who have to transport him, sources told The Post on Wednesday.

Guzman, who has twice escaped prison in Mexico, is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan — but his case was filed in Brooklyn federal court, where he’s charged in a 17-count indictment.

“God forbid they transport him and there’s a plan in place by his people to break him free. They get into a shootout in broad daylight with El Chapo’s gunmen,” a law-enforcement source said. “Lots of lives are at stake, mainly that of law enforcement, innocent bystanders on the street.”

The source said the marshals’ job is “to transport the defendant from point A to point B — and to get him there and back safely.”

The video arrangement for Guzman’s Feb. 3 hearing was made for “transport security” reasons, a law-enforcement source said, adding that the logistics would be a “pain in the butt.”

On Wednesday, Judge Brian Cogan ordered Guzman’s video appearance to “minimize disruption from physical transportation.
