A decreasing number of pedestrian injuries is Mayor Bloomberg’s new selling point for closing sections of Broadway in Times and Herald squares, after city officials earlier touted how it would speed up traffic.
Bloomberg yesterday said he couldn’t say if “all traffic is better” or “all traffic is worse” after turning the Great White Way into the Great Walkway.
But he did say pedestrian fatalities have decreased.
“It’s not just traffic. One of the things that has happened is pedestrian deaths have come down dramatically in this area,” Bloomberg said.
“And I don’t know how you equate a few lives with a few more seconds of inconvenience,” he added.
