A fast-moving fire engulfed an apartment building in the Bronx Monday morning — injuring multiple people, including a child and several firefighters, authorities said.
Two of the firefighters were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, according to the FDNY.
The fire was reported just before 5:30 a.m. at 225 McClellan St. and quickly spread throughout the six-story building, triggering multiple alarms. By 8:20 a.m., a seventh alarm was struck — with more than 220 firefighters battling the blaze, according to the FDNY.
The fire was eventually under control by 8:30 a.m.
“We lost everything,” 54-year-old Kadia Cisse, who owns a grocery store on the first floor. “We have insurance so we might start again but it’s going to take a long time.”
Seven in total — six firefighters and a child — were injured, but all of their injuries were considered non-life threatening, the FDNY said.
