Thanksgiving came early at a Bronx charter school on Tuesday for more than 500 students — some of whom are homeless or in transitional housing.

The feast at Mott Haven Academy Charter School was part of an annual event that provides a traditional meal with all the trimmings for some of the neediest children in the South Bronx.

“For a single mother like myself, it’s really hard to put together a Thanksgiving meal,” said Michelle Hand, whose two daughters attend the school.

“So, to know that the school has my back fills my heart. The idea that the children really got to experience the full-blown Thanksgiving thing, not just a part of it, was just fantastic.”

Hand said her daughters — Skylar Hand, 14, and 5-year-old London Wilkerson — consider the school “family.”

They’re not alone.

“Haven Academy is here to give kids a fair shot,” said Mary Kinslow, the school’s director of external affairs.

“We don’t know what the next five days off of school will mean for each child,” she said. “But today they celebrated with their Haven Academy family.”

Kinslow said 504 kids were fed Tuesday, with the food prepared by the academy’s own chef.

As if that wasn’t enough, the school also gave away 30 turkeys at the end of the day.
