An Army reservist who was fatally shot by a fellow soldier at a military base in Georgia Thursday was recalled yesterday as a Bronx native who “loved soldiering.”

Master Sgt. Pedro Mercado, 47, was killed at the US Army Reserve Center located at Fort Gillem, about 10 miles from Atlanta.

“Pedro was a wonderful person, if you got to meet Pedro, you were truly blessed,” his distraught wife, Kimberly Mercado, told The Post. “He was all about work and family.”

She said Pedro served in the Army for 29 years, and his two sons followed him into the service.

“He loved the army, he loved soldiering,” said Kimberly, who is also in the Army. “He tried to make a difference, he was a mentor.”

Mercado, who also has a daughter, oversaw the medical units.

The Army said his alleged killer turned himself in to local police Thursday evening, but they did not release his name because he had not been formally charged.
