A Bronx man has been charged with drunk driving in connection with a fatal crash authorities say was caused as he was drag racing on a Long Island highway.

Everardo Nieto was arraigned Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated, manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges. He was ordered jailed on $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash bail.

Assistant District Attorney Katherine Breazier said in court that a nearly empty bottle of vodka was found in Nieto’s truck after the accident.

An 86-year-old man was killed and his 84-year-old wife injured when Nieto allegedly collided with their car after crossing into oncoming traffic.

Nieto was represented at his arraignment by a Legal Aid attorney. His family, who was in court, declined to comment.
