A Bronx fiend today was busted for killing his girlfriend’s toddler, police said.

Edgar Algarin, 26, was babysitting tragic 3-year-old Anita Ortiz and her 5-year-old brother on Saturday when Algarin allegedly brutally beat the little girl around 4:12 a.m. inside her family’s apartment on East 140th Street near Cypress Avenue, authorities said. The children’s mother was not home at the time.

Algarin called 911 after the child stopped breathing, and responding police found Ortiz unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

She was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where she died.

The city’s medical examiner determined that the child died of blunt impact to the torso and compression of the neck.

Algarin was charged with murder and manslaughter.
