He got beaten up and shot for nothing.

Witness Theodore Edwards, 22, won’t have to testify because alleged gunman Brandin Santiago, 21, managed to frighten him into silence, a Bronx judge ruled today.

“There’s enough evidence to show that the defendant has procured the witness’ unavailablity by violence, threats or chicanery,” Judge Ann Donnelly said.

Edwards, who had been jumped since the start of the four-week-old trial, appeared briefly in court today, wearing a bandage on his right arm where he was shot last Wednesday. He refused to testify about the fatal shooting of prep-school student Nadairee Walters in November 2008.

“He is a truly frightened witness,” said Donnelly, who said his prior statements to police could be given to the jury instead.

“He said he felt bad about the victim, a 17-year-old girl,” said Det. Investigator Peter Morro who met several times with Edwards but couldn’t get him to testify. “He wished he could do something but he was too afraid.”
