Brooklyn Cyclones fans will be doing a lot of scoreboard watching this season — to see if they’re personally winning.

The Coney Island-based Mets’ minor league affiliate have begun a first-of-its-kind interactive promotion, called “Cyclones Social Scoreboard,” which allows fans to earn points using social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare to sound off about the team.

Fans will be able track the contest’s leader board on MCU Park’s scoreboard during all home games or by viewing it online. Among the ways to earn points are “Liking” or sharing items on the Cyclone Facebook page or checking in on Foursquare from Cyclone games. The more you interact, the more points you earn.

Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen said the interactive experience “is unlike anything that our fans have seen before,” adding “we are very excited to be able to provide our fans with a fun, interactive way they can support the team while also rewarding them for their loyalty.”

The contest runs through September 15, and prizes include a trip for two next season to Port Saint Lucie, Fla., for Mets spring training. The Cyclones in 2012 will also randomly select a fan checked in on Foursquare at MCU Park each home game to throw out the first pitch that game.
