Republican Michael Grimm, who is running this November for the Congressional seat held by Democratic Rep. Michael McMahon, is promising to forge a strong working relationship with the Brooklyn VA Medical Center and the Fort Hamilton Army Garrison in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge section.

The 13th Congressional District, which includes parts of southern Brooklyn and all of Staten Island, has the highest concentration of veterans in the city.

“There will be no greater priority for me than ensuring that our service men and women, and our veterans, receive the best possible care and services,” said Grimm, a former FBI agent and combat veteran, in a press release. “The Brooklyn VA, located right next to Fort Hamilton, provides quality health care services to our active duty personnel and their families, allowing them to receive medical attention while remaining functional at the base. I will always fight not only to maintain but to improve this Center. Fort Hamilton is the only active military base in New York City and is an essential military asset in protecting New York City and the entire tri-state region from terrorism.”

The Brooklyn VA Medical Center serves 16,500 veterans living in Brooklyn.
