An elderly Brooklyn man died weeks after he was burned by an out-of-control fire during a New Year’s ritual, police sources said.

The victim, 70, and a 24-year-old woman were on the roof of their building at 1119 E. 80th St. in Canarsie just after midnight on Jan. 1 when the fire broke out. The pair were engaged in a ritual involving candles and alcohol when the fire became out of control, according to sources.

Both sustained injuries and were transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where the male victim — who had suffered burns throughout his body — later died on Jan. 25, police said.

Police are investigating the incident as an accident.
