Sock! Bam!… Snap!
A Bay Ridge man wearing a Batman T-shirt transformed into a real-life crime-fighting crusader when he chased down a suspect who was fleeing cops — breaking his own leg in the process.
Christian Almonte, 22, was driving on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Bay Ridge Tuesday when he witnessed the man ditch a car after a high-speed chase with cops then attempt to run away.
“The guy ran in my direction, and honestly I was just trying to get out of traffic, and so in order to stop the guy that was coming my way I kicked him in the chest,” Almonte, who works as a dog walker, told The Post.
“I thought it was going to be like… WWE style, but no. My shin broke in half.”
The NYPD Highway District on Friday tweeted out a photo of Almonte when he was released from Lutheran Hospital after undergoing surgery for his injuries.
A driver, 17-year-old Kevin Mejia, was arrested. A second rogue driver is still on the loose.
Both led police in hot pursuit on the BQE after Officer Michael Conforti of Highway Unit 2 saw two cars speeding through traffic on Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m.
Conforti tried to pull the drivers over, but they refused to stop and instead tried to escape on the 86th Street exit ramp, which was backed up with heavy traffic.
The unidentified driver ditched his ride and fled the scene on foot and has still not been apprehended.
Mejia — who was allegedly driving a 2019 Mercedes-Benz later found to have been reported stolen — also tried to run, but that’s when Almonte stepped in.
Almonte — who now has a rod in his leg — said police on the scene joked about his Batman shirt.
“They were like, ‘Hey, you realize this is Brooklyn not Gotham right?’” he said.
In its tweet about Almonte, the NYPD wrote “P.S. We’re hiring!!” — but he said he wants to be an animation designer rather than join the force.
