Brooklyn native Yair Shahak’s prayers have paid off.
Shahak, 28, is the first New Yorker to snag the top prize at the International Adult Bible Contest in Jerusalem.
The Orthodox Jew took home $10,000 and a giant gold-lettered Bible for tying for first place with an Israeli in sacred-writings trivia.
On Dec. 30, 16 finalists lined up on stage in front of thousands of onlookers and four judges in Jerusalem.
The Torah-trivia experts included competitors from the United States, Israel, Canada, France, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Ecuador, Australia and more.
“I got every single question in the entire contest right,” said Shahak, bursting with pride.
“It was a dream come true that I’d been building up to my whole life,” said Shahak, who grew up studying the Bible in Borough Park.
The Talmudic whiz, who has a master’s degree from Yeshiva University in Biblical and Semitic studies, was invited to compete after beating out his American opponents in a written test.
“I was excited and relieved to be going,” said Shahak, who’s been reading the Torah since age 6.
