The Brooklyn Museum has completed the renovation of its historic Great Hall as part of an extensive redesign of its first floor.
Four free-standing walls have been added to the two-story-high colonnaded space. They will display art while concealing climate-control systems within.
A new South Gallery also has been created in space previously used for non-public functions.
The next phase of the first-floor redesign will include a museum cafi, bar and outdoor dining terrace off the lobby. Offices and other space will be converted into a special exhibition gallery. The museum shop will be redesigned and moved near the main lobby.
The Beaux-Arts building houses permanent collections that range from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art.
