A Brooklyn street where a mother of 12 sacrificed herself to shield elementary schoolers from gang gunfire now bears her name.

Zurana Horton, 34, was walking on Watkins Street just down the block from PS 298 in October 2011 when gangbanger Andrew Lopez opened fire, killing Horton and injuring two others.

On Saturday, Horton’s mom Denise Peace and two of Horton’s kids joined community officials to rename a portion of Watkins Street between Pitkin and Glenmore avenues as “Zurana Horton Way.”

“It makes me feel better. I know that now the city cares,” Peace said.

Horton’s youngest child, 8-year-old Isaiah Troutman, does not remember his mother.

“I know that she has a good heart, and I know that she’s probably watching down on us,” said Isaiah, who called the street renaming “ pretty cool.”

To Isaiah’s sister, Siya Davis, 9, the mom she lost is a hero.

“I miss my mother and her taking care of us,” Siya said, adding, “I’ll feel happy because this will be named after my mother.”

Lopez was convicted of murder and is serving a sentence of 55 years to life in state prison for the shooting.

“You’re going to never forget the loss of a child,” said Peace, 61, who had two other kids shot and killed. “It’s got better, but it’s never easy. Some days you just cry.”
