A 16-year-old boy severely damaged his hands while playing with a firework near a Brooklyn school on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The teenager and his friend, 15, were playing with the explosive outside of Nazareth Regional High School on East 56th Street near Avenue D in East Flatbush at about 4:40 p.m., according to police.
The firework ignited while the 16-year-old was holding it. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital with severe injuries to his hands.
The 15-year-old was taken to Brookdale with facial injuries, police said.
Names of the teenagers were not released Tuesday.
Both are expected to recover.
