BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 56-year-old Buffalo man has been found guilty of fatally shooting a woman in 1975.

Bernard Thomas Jr. was found guilty late Thursday of intentional second-degree murder for the slaying of 19-year-old Michelle Dixon, who was found 35 years ago lying facedown in her bed with gunshot wounds to her head and back.

Cold case squad detectives reopened the case in 2008 and obtained a DNA sample from Thomas that they said linked him to the crime. He was arrested last May.

Thomas faces mandatory life in prison when he is sentenced on May 21.
