Building a new $chool
City officials broke ground yesterday on one of the most expensive school buildings in recent history — an estimated $167 million Midtown home for an elite public high school, according to city documents.
The overhaul of the six-story building on West 43rd Street for the overcrowded Beacon HS will allow it to grow by about 200 students to 1,500. The facility will also house a special-education school.
