The MTA will scrap flashing blue lights atop some buses because other motorists were confusing them with emergency vehicles, officials said yesterday.

Motorists were clearing the way for the Select Bus Service vehicles, which run along First and Second avenues in Manhattan and routes in the outer boroughs because they thought cops were responding to urgent calls.

“Having these blue flashing lights unnecessarily distracted drivers and desensitized the public for what is reserved in law for emergency vehicles only,” said City Councilman Vincent Ignizio.

MTA officials will choose a new light color for the 140 SBS buses, which typically feature off-board payment and designated lanes.

The agency has not decided whether the new lights will remain blinking.

Motorists praised the change on Ignizio’s Facebook page.

“Those lights should be reserved for emergency vehicles only!” one woman wrote.
