A jitney bus driver was busted Monday afternoon on the Lincoln Tunnel for racking up more than $50,000 in unpaid tolls, Port Authority officials say.

At about 3:30pm, a Port Authority Police officer recognized that the registration used by the vehicle was that of a known toll evader, and proceeded to pull over the suspect.

The investigation confirmed that the driver, 62 year old Bertha Moreno, had amounted 653 known EZPass violations that totaled over $50,990 in related tolls and fees.

Moreno had been using an EZPass transponder for the omnibus which is legally appropriate for use in passenger vehicles only.

The bus driver was placed under arrest and charged with theft of service and theft by unlawful taking.
