A Bronx livery cab driver is fighting for his life after a vicious thug shot him today in a failed robbery attempt, police said.
Julio Lora, 64, was shot in the neck and back by the 29-year-old passenger in his Lincoln Town Car as the vehicle neared East 163rd Street and Prospect Avenue, in Morrisania, at around 3:30 p.m., police said.
Lora was rushed to Lincoln Hispital and is in critical condition.
The suspect fled and then tried to rob a woman on a nearby street, cops said.
Good Samaritans intervened and stopped the robbery, holding the suspect until police arrived, cops added.
The firearm was recovered, cops said.
Lora, who works for Apollo Car Services, is a hard-work ing employee who drove seven days a week to support his family in the Dominican Republic, said colleagues.
“I was shocked, I don’t know what to do. He worked very hard, everyday,” said Pedro Gomez, a dispatcher for the company.
