A Bronx teen hoping for a football scholarship was killed by a hit-and-run driver during a late-night bicycle ride on Friday night.

The family of David Ellis, 18, was devastated by the tragedy.

“He was just a wonderful kid,” his sister Tara, 24, said through tears at the family’s Fordham apartment. “He was just the ideal person.”

Ellis was riding a pal’s bike north on Webster Avenue in Williamsbridge at about 11:20 p.m. Friday when he was slammed from behind by a 2001 Nissan Maxima.

He tumbled from the bike into the roadway’s southbound lane, where he was struck by an oncoming Ford Explorer SUV.

The driver and passenger in the Maxima ditched the car and fled. The 46-year-old driver of the Ford stayed at the scene.

Ellis “was going to be a big, big part of the team this year,” said Jamaica HS football coach Calvin Whitfield.
