By George, diner back
George’s, an iconic downtown diner, will be back in business this morning, after a controversial Health Department ruling kept it closed for nearly four days.
Bill Koulmentas — owner of the eatery at the corner of Greenwich and Rector streets, which in the past has served the likes of Mayor Bloomberg — said he’ll be brewing cups of joe at 6 a.m.
Koulmentas and a city inspector had a heated exchange after the owner began videotaping the code cop on his iPhone during an inspection last week.
A new set of inspectors was back at George’s yesterday, and gave the restaurant it a clean bill of health, according to Koulmentas.
