* September- December: Attend open houses and visit schools. Go on interviews and auditions.

* Sept. 14 – Oct. 12: Register with guidance counselors for the Specialized High

School Admissions Test.

* Sept. 14 – Oct. 28: Register for auditions for admission to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

* Sept. 24 –25: Citywide high school fair at Brooklyn Technical High School. Students and families can meet representatives from every school.

* Mid Oct.: Kids receive high school applications from middle-school counselors.

* Oct. 21: Tickets to take the specialized exam available from counselors for students who registered.

* Oct 22-23: High school fairs in each borough. Locations to be announced.

* Oct 29-30: Specialized high school admissions exam given to 8th-grade students.

* Nov. 5: Specialized exam given to current 9th grade students; and those who need special accommodations.

* Nov. 20: Specialized exam for all Sabbath observers. Make-up test with prior permission only.

* Dec. 2: High school applications due to middle schools. Students rank up to 12 choices. Some selective schools then rank applicants.

* Late February: All students receive a high school match. Students who receive an offer from a specialized school also get a regular match to one of their 12 top picks, and choose between the specialized and other school.

* February/March: New schools announced , fairs held. Students can resubmit applications to request one or more of these new schools.

* Mid-March: Deadline for students who did not receive a match in the first round to submit a second application.

Late April: The second match letters will be given to students. Appeals to change the match based on a documented hardship can then be filed.

The DOE application does not include charter high schools. Contact each charter school directly for application information.
