A creepy counselor at a Staten Island Catholic day camp was indicted yesterday for an alleged sex attack on an 8-year-old autistic boy — who couldn’t even speak to report the crime.
Francesco Zaffuto, 19, came to court bizarrely clutching “The Complete Works of Lewis Carroll” — a collection by the “Alice in Wonderland” author, who was obsessed with photographing naked children.
Prosecutors say Zaffuto used his mother’s iPhone to take “trophy photos” that showed him forcing the victim — wearing clothing from the Mount Loretto summer camp — to perform sex acts.
And the iPhone’s GeoTag feature revealed the time and place the photos were shot, so authorities said they knew the assaults took place at the camp over two days in late August 2008.
Zaffuto was hit with a 104-count indictment, including sex assault, child porn and other charges.
Sources said Zaffuto, at the time a student at St. Joseph by-the-Sea HS, was recommended for the job by then-Principal Monsignor Joseph Ansaldi.
“It’s shocking,” Ansaldi said. “I don’t remember doing it. If I did, I did it on the basis of what I saw of him in class, and I never saw anything out of the ordinary.”
