Two adorable West Highland terrier-mix pooches were rescued after being dumped in a Bronx garbage can, officials said yesterday.

The dogs, about 2 years old, were taken to an animal shelter and given the names Fred and Ginger, according to Julie Bank, head of the city’s Animal Care & Control department.

“AC&C is working with the Bronx DA’s Office to try to find out who is responsible for this,” Bank said.

When they pups were discovered Sept. 16, they were stuffed in a duffel bag and near death. They are expected to recover.
