Cardinal Timothy Dolan asked the congregation at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan during Palm Sunday services to pray for a decorated FDNY veteran who lost his life in the line of duty while battling a blaze in Harlem.

“For his wife Eileen and his four little children we pray to the Lord,” Dolan said of decorated, 15-year FDNY veteran Michael Davidson, a father of four.

“I thought to myself, how fitting that his funeral is going to be during Holy Week,” the Cardinal said of Davidson, who perished in the basement of 773 St. Nicholas Avenue around 11:00 p.m. Thursday.

Though no one was in the basement at the time, film work was being wrapped up for the day in the building on the set of “Motherless Brooklyn,” a new Edward Norton and Bruce Willis movie due out next year.

“We remember Jesus, who said, ‘Greater love than this no one has,’ and he gave his life for another and that’s what firefighter Michael Davidson did,” Dolan said.

He added he would be bringing a woven palm frond for Davidson’s window, Eileen, to the wake, which was scheduled for later in the day, “as a little token of our love and our sympathy.”
