Timothy Cardinal Dolan was looking for a hefty pocketful of miracles yesterday — an additional $125 million in donations — to help fund the nearly $180 million restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
“The cathedral, simply put, is cracking,” Dolan said before the start of yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Trading in his galero for a red hard-hat, Dolan stood outside the 133-year-old edifice on Fifth Avenue to explain the building’s dire straits.
“We’re not talking about a nice idea or some cosmetic face-lift — we’re talking about the very survival of our beloved cathedral.”
The project will start in April and take about two years.
