Sorry, this cat is not for sale.

Lionel, a 14-year-old orange tabby, is the unofficial mascot of Midtown’s Red Caboose shop on 45th Street, where he warmly greets model train, car and plane hobbyists from his perch on the store’s counter.

The hobby shop’s owner, Allan Spitz, 71, adopted him a decade ago from a hardware shop upstairs, and he brings “calmness, order and tranquility” to the store.

“He just sits on the counter and looks pretty,” said Spitz. “He likes attention. He’s not skittish.” Spitz usually feeds him Meow Mix but customers bring him treats, too.

The feline is one of 36 cats photographed in Tamar Arslanian and Andrew Marttila’s book, “Shop Cats of New York” (Harper Design, out Tuesday), based on Arslanian’s blog IHaveCat.com.

They prowl bodegas, flower shops, record stores and tobacco suppliers, such as Ninth Avenue’s Smoke Scene, where Charlie, a 4-year-old calico rescue from The Bronx, keeps pests — including dogs — at bay.

“Sometimes he runs outside when he sees a dog and he swats it,” said shopkeeper Larry McCue. “He’s a tough guy, we all like him a lot.”
